Sophia Unfolds 2015 Retreat
A Red Tent Weekend
Metamora, MI

Picture
Andrea Evans
This year we're taking a slightly different approach. Typically, we fill the weekend to overflowing with beautiful, informative and fun workshops. This time, in honor of our 5th anniversary, we're going to let ourselves relax, rest and rejuvenate. In order to do this, we will not schedule formal programming, but there will be plenty of time for connection with each other and the powerful, healing land, food and hospitality of Windrise.

Sophia Unfolds 2014 Retreat
Beloved Body
Metamora, MI

Picture
Leah Myers
What keeps women from fully stepping into our power? Underlying many of our barriers are body issues. In this retreat, Beloved Body, we connected deeply with our bodies and celebrating the physical female form. We worked on reclaiming our bodies as our own, learning to hold them sacred, and cultivating self-love and self-care practices.

Sophia Unfolds 2013 Retreat

Metamora, MI

Story can be used for entertainment, but also for deep personal, cultural, global, and cosmic transformation.  At the 2013 Sophia Unfolds retreat, we will explore how our stories shape our past, present and future. We will also specifically look at the role of the feminine in both story and storytelling.

This retreat experience will include workshops that explore various aspect of story, several short integrative sessions, time to play, discover, and connect.

Windrise Retreat Center offers the perfect container for our stories with beautiful grounds, accommodations, and delicious, healthy food.

Retreat Workshops

Waking Snow White:
Poison Apples as a
Path to Power

with Deb Austin

The maps and signposts for soul’s journey through the world of form are encoded in the archetypal imagery of myth and fairytales. In the stories we loved (or hated!) in childhood lie keys to our own awakening and movement into deep authenticity and empowerment.  What were the stories that stirred you as a child? What has comprised the poisoned apples and magic mirrors of your journey? Where in your life have you been “asleep’?  An old Chinese proverb states that, “When sleeping women wake, mountains move.”  Are you ready to shift the tectonic plates of what appears to be your life’s losses and limitations?

Fade in, Fade out: the appearance and disappearance of
women in film

with Dawn Gorman

Throughout history women in the film industry have played an important role in mirroring and shaping our views on women. Whether in front of the lens, behind the lens or behind the scenes, women have used film to share their stories and voices and help connect us.

This session will took participants on a short journey of women in film through the years and how their stories have informed, helped or transformed us.

Weaving My Truth:
A Process.

with Cindy McKeough

With some literal weaving Cindy helped us capture our experiences during the retreat on our very own looms.  The outcome was beautiful and a wonderful way to remind ourselves of what we learned once we went home.

HERstory
with Leah Myers

Are you ready?? In this session we dived deep on an interactive, intuitive, experiential, self-discovery journey. This expedition will allowed us to tap in deeply, and we wove together our collective experience and story of the feminine spirit’s journey on Earth. Our vehicles for the expedition were meditation, improvisation, dance, art and storytelling. In the end, we wove the discovered pieces together to tell our collective, collaborative, true, HER-story.

In 2013 we did a special optional Friday Workshop:
The Alchemy of Creativity: Transforming your Story into Possibility
with Molly Indura

This workshop took participants on an inner journey.  We will explored the stories we hold about the past and how our stories have an impact on who we are in the present. We then worked with ways to transform our stories using a creative visionary process to help bring forth a new way of Being.

Sophia Unfolds 2012 Retreat:
Igniting the Creative Flame
August 10th to August 12th 2012, at Windrise Retreat Center

The focus and intention of the 2012 retreat was to provide an experience in which we as individuals and a collective tap into creativity as our divine expression. This retreat experience included four workshops, several short sessions, time to play, explore, and connect. Through these activities we opened to the power of the creative flame that moves through us all.

Main Workshops at the 2012 Retreat

Juicy Musing with Jeannie Ballew
Inspired by the book, The Nine Modern Day Muses (and a Bodyguard) by Jill Badonsky, we will create intimate dialog with each of the nine muses: Participants will learn how to “move through procrastination, overwhelm, perfectionism, self-sabotage, and lack of focus to the joy of the creative process and its validation of our soul and spirit.”

Digging for Treasure with Mara Evans
This continues to be one of my favorite workshops to give. I’m excited to bring this to Sophia Unfolds. Participants will experience a unique approach for tapping into Higher Mind through creative expression. We’ll go on a creative journey that brings forth images and messages from the unconscious — resulting in two pieces of spiritually meaningful artistic expression.

Acting it Out with Andrea Evans
A great man once said “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”  In order to activate our imaginations we will be using improvisation and games to begin working together and pushing each other to think and feel in creative ways.  Accessing this new playful space the group will be able to co-create new ideas and innovative solutions to complex issues.

Playful Spirits with Cindy McKeough
Using the tradition of spirit dolls, we will make a unique muse to help connect with the divine creative Self.  Making and honoring a muse can help the ongoing process of creating, aid in connecting with desires, healing energies and empower dreams. Your muse will help evoke a sense of the sacred & act as a guide to navigate your creative process harmoniously

Thank you all for your contributions and support to the
2012 Sophia Unfolds Start Some Good campaign

We had a very successful campaign and we are so grateful that we are able to say "yes" to 5 women who would not have been able to make it without the scholarship funds raised for this year's retreat.  We were truly touched by the support and contributions from everyone.  Below we honor the names of the pledgees who donated $25 or more.  Thank you again and again!

Sophia Unfolds Screening:
Iron Jawed Angels

Picture
Our very first screening was held on February 26th, 2012 for the film Iron Jawed Angels.  A moving and pertinent film about women's struggles and sacrifices for the vote in the United States.

The event was attended by about 12 women from many walks of life.  After the film we had a great discussion about what our next steps are as women and how to accomplish these upcoming tasks.

We have several films in mind for future events, but if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to Contact Us.

Sophia Unfolds 2011 Retreat:
A Cross-Generational Dialog on Feminine Wisdom and Leadership

This retreat was held on August 12 through August 14, 2011 at the beautiful Windrise Retreat Center.

For this retreat it was important to us to take a cross-generational approach, in both organizers and participants, in order to bring the diversity of voices needed.  We needed the fresh perspective and youthful enthusiasm of The Maiden, the voice of protection, nurturance and self-sacrifice from The Mother, and the wisdom and no-nonsense rebelliousness of The Crone.

Our main workshops included:
  • Identifying the Female Shadow – Learning to Love Women with Mara Evans
  • Solar Feminine with Pat Fero
  • Relationships & Sexuality with Deb Austin
  • Connecting With Our Nature Through Nature with Leah Lambaria
  • Leading With Our Core Selves with Andrea Evans
  • Claiming the Powers of the Universe with Mara Evans

It was a wonderful event attended by 13 women who still stay connected.  To get a taste of what it was like, check out the Testimonials.
